For the first time, the regulation considers the entire lifecycle of packaging\u2014from material selection, production and use to recycling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The most important requirements include:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Transparency regarding materials, components and supply chains<br \/>\n\u2022 Restriction of environmentally and health-hazardous substances<br \/>\n\u2022 Promotion of recyclable packaging solutions<br \/>\n\u2022 Increase in recycled content in packaging<br \/>\n\u2022 Avoidance of unnecessary packaging<br \/>\n\u2022 Introduction of clearly defined responsibilities along the entire supply chain<\/p>\n<p>The key milestones of the PPWR<\/p>\n<p><strong>Implementation will take place step by step:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From 12 August 2026: Entry into application<br \/>\n\u2022 Substance restrictions and new requirements for packaging materials<br \/>\n\u2022 Introduction of roles and responsibilities for economic operators<br \/>\n\u2022 Conformity assessments and documentation requirements<br \/>\n\u2022 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)<\/p>\n<p><strong>From 2028<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Mandatory compostability for certain types of packaging<br \/>\n\u2022 Introduction of harmonised packaging labelling<br \/>\n\u2022 Further requirements to reduce unnecessary packaging<\/p>\n<p><strong>From 2030<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 All packaging must be recyclable<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimum recycled content requirements for plastic packaging<br \/>\n\u2022 Stricter requirements for packaging minimisation<br \/>\n\u2022 Ban on certain oversized or non-recyclable packaging<\/p>\n<p>What does the PPWR mean for material manufacturers?<\/p>\n<p>For material manufacturers, a phase of profound change is beginning. New materials often come with different properties such as changed material thickness, fibre composition and cutting and processing behaviour.
